The Society is especially fortunate with its two professional musicians who have been with us for many years and who, through their skill, patience and hard work, have moulded us into a very successful choir.
Our Musical Director Robin Kimber, began in music as a chorister at Bury St
Edmunds Cathedral. He was organ scholar at Corpus Christi College, Oxford and
studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Peter Hurford. He has been Director
of Music at St James's, Sussex Gardens since 1985 and has pursued a varied
career as conductor, recitalist and continuo player with frequent engagements in
major London venues.
Robin was appointed conductor of the Epsom Choral Society in 1991. Under his direction the Choir has added London venues (St James's, Sussex Gardens and St James's, Piccadilly and most recently, St Martin-in-the-Fields) to its programme and has achieved great success in the Leith Hill Musical Festival competitions, particularly in the years 2003-6 when the choir very nearly swept the board.
Marion Lea studied at the Royal Academy of Music. As a freelance pianist and accompanist she has performed in recitals and concerts with many singers and instrumentalists and broadcast on both television and radio. She also works as an orchestral pianist, accompanies auditions for the BBC, plays for choral societies and operatic companies and coaches singers. She has accompanied the Epsom Choral Society in rehearsals and concerts under seven conductors.
